Nike Golf certainly has the highest profile Tour Staff signing this offseason in Rory McIlroy. The world’s number one golfer signed with Nike and has made a switch to their new VRS Covert driver and 20XI ball, among other clubs. DimpleHead was able to speak with Product Line Manager for Golf Clubs Tony Dabbs about the VRS Covert line and Product Development Director of Golf Balls Rock Ishii about the 2013 20XI golf balls. The interviews offer tremendous insight on the technical aspects of the 2013 line from Nike Golf.
Perhaps the most exciting innovation from Nike is their Flex Loft system in the VRS Covert line. The Flex Loft allows the player to have a club with independent adjustability of the loft and face angle from the hosel. The clubs are not sold with a specific loft, as the Flex Loft allows for 5 different loft options in the driver (8.5*-12.5*) and 3 different face angles (left, center and right). The VRS Covert Tour models of the fairways and hybrids also feature this adjustability. The performance line of VRS Covert line offers the adjustable driver and traditional glued, fixed lofts in the fairways and hybrids. Here are pictures of the VRS line and 2013 golf balls from Nike:
