News continues to roll out on Tour Pros and their new equipment deals. As of now there are no further developments on the Rory McIlroy/Nike deal. Again, it is expected that the deal will be announced at a January 14 press conference in Abu Dhabi. Here are some updates since my last post on this topic:
We’ll start with TaylorMade:
The company announced, via it’s twitter account, that long-time staffer Retief Goosen had re-signed. TaylorMade also confirmed the additions of Stewart Cink (from Nike), 2012 Rookie of the Year John Huh (from Ping), Brian Davis (from Titleist), J.J. Henry (from Callaway) and Ryan Moore (from Adams Golf). TaylorMade-Adidas’ recent acquisition of Adams makes Moore’s move a but curious. Isn’t it just in-house? I wonder what will become of the other Adams Staff Pros? Will there be a cross-pollination of TaylorMade and Adams clubs in the bags of players from these two companies? It will depend on how TaylorMade-Adidas wants to treat the Adams brand and TOUR presence going forward.
Callaway also announced two additions to their tour staff. Gary Woodland joining Callaway from Titleist had been rumored since the fall and was confirmed with this welcome tweet:
Andres Gonzales was also announced as a new Callaway staffer. Gonzales was one of 25 players to earn a PGA TOUR card from the Web.com Tour last fall. Gonzales is an excellent follow on Twitter, notable for his frequent @mentions of Tiger Woods.
Gonzales also sports some incredible facial hair and has it commemorated on his Callaway staff bag:
